Trade in Your Old Gear for New Gear

Here at California Fly Shop we know how it works: we all want new gear but have a closet full of old gear at home! Here's our advice: let us sell your old gear for you on eBay and credit you with the proceeds. That way your old gear can pay for your new gear.

Send us your old gear  - we’ll take care of everything. When your gear arrives at the shop we'll estimate its value based on our experience. If you agree to the value, we'll clean the gear, photograph it and list it on eBay. You don't have to lift a finger.

After your gear is sold, we’ll give you a store credit or gift card for the net amount of your gear's winning bid. We'll even ship your new gear for FREE.

Here's how it works:

1. Ship us your gear with a signed copy of the Trade In Gear Submission Form.

2. We will clean, research, take photos, write a product description, and list your gear on eBay in a no reserve, 7-day auction. We will specify the opening bid, which is the minimum amount you agreed to as the value of the used gear.

3. You will receive a phone call from us at the conclusion of the auction, and we will give you a store credit or gift card for the net sale amount for your gear.

4. Use your store credit or gift card at the shop or in our online store! This credit is valid on ALL product merchandise – including sale and clearance items. Limitations apply, see the "not-so-fine print" below.

The not-so-fine print:

1. The following gear is eligible for the Trade In program: fly rods and fly reels. 
2. Store credit is usually given three weeks from the time we receive your gear (however this can vary greatly depending on customer demand and eBay activity). 
3. Your store credit equals the net proceeds from the sale of your gear (the winning bid minus 13% for eBay and PayPal fees).
4. Trade-in credit cannot be used in combination with other discounts and/or promotions and cannot be used to pay for guided travel.
5. We reserve the right to change our trade-in policy at any time and without notice.
