Sage has pushed the boundaries of fly fishing since it was founded in 1980 by legendary rod designer Don Green. Don applied the knowledge and experience gained from building rods for Fenwick and Grizzly when he started Sage, with the specific goal of creating high-performance rods that will never run out of power. As Sage’s powerful yet delicate rods gained a following, the company continued to innovate fly rod technology and in 1986, Sage introduced the first saltwater-specific fly rods. Today, Sage is still pushing the boundaries of what a fly rod can do and is one of the most popular brands in the California Fly Shop. Whether you’re fishing for trout or tarpon, these rods will maximize your casting efficiency without sacrificing sensitivity. All Sage rods and blanks are hand-made in Bainbridge Island, Washington, and covered by Sage’s lifetime, original owner warranty.
The ultra-fast action Sage TCX fly rod is designed for maximum-distance casting, big flies, and windy conditions. The TCX is lighter, has a narrower profile, recovers quicker, and dampens faster than its predecessor, the Sage TCR. For these reasons, the Sage TCX a favorite of competition casters. Although the hallmarks of the Sage TCX are power and distance, it does not sacrifice “fishability” for performance. These rods are finished with a “kryptonite” green color and come with an uplocking dark nickel-colored aluminum reel seat. Needless to say, these rods really pop off the racks here at the California Fly Shop.
The Sage TCX 690-4 is an all-around rod that effortlessly casts big flies to distant fish. Use it for streamer fishing for big trout, pike, and even schoolie stripers. The Sage TCX 690-4 is also a great rod for casting nymph rigs with a lot of weight. The Sage TCX 690-4 is identical to the Sage TCX 691-4 except for the handle. If you do not want a fighting butt on your 6-weight, stick with the 690-4.
