Fund Raising & Conservation

Posted by

This has been a busy week for our staff in terms of conservation fundraising. Last week we hosted an event for the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) in partnership with our local chapter of CalTrout. You can see the movie trailers here, and if you get a chance to see the tour in your neighborhood you should. The money raised goes to small film makers and conservation and each event is usually supported by a local fly shop. We donated several gift cards in our signature fly boxes for the raffle which also included items from Simms, CalTrout and Patagonia.

This week we attended the Trout Unlimited annual Gala which honored the dedicated environmental work of former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt. We teamed up with one of our favorite clients, Betsy Gates, to donate an Outcast Pac-9 Featherlight pontoon boat for the silent auction and cheered as Mr. Babbitt rallied the crowd to protect Bristol Bay and block the Pebble Mine project forever.

As fly shop owners in a state where agriculture water rights frequently bump heads with wildlife conservationists, it's hard to be neutral on the subject of water. This is why we support organizations like Trout Unlimited, CalTrout and smaller, hardworking groups like the Russian River Steelhead Society and Friends of the River. Without getting too preachy, water is life. And for many of us, fly fishing is almost a religion. It's a chance to get off the grid, out into the dappled sunlight and recover our peace of mind, while we catch and release wild fish.
