Trip Overview: 7 Night/6 Day Long Caye Fishing Package
Number of anglers per trip: 6
Price per angler $2,495
June 21-28, 2017
Travel: From San Francisco, an early morning flight will put guest in Belize City mid afternoon via a connection through Dallas, Houston or Miami. Upon arrival, the lodge staff will pick up anglers at the airport for a 15 minute drive and river crossing to the main Lodge.
Accommodations: The Belize River Lodge is located 3.5 miles up from the mouth of the Belize River in a jungle setting and allows easy access to open flats and the many mangrove islands close to mainland. From the lodge, anglers have the best access to fish several rivers - as well as their systems of creeks and lagoons for Snooks and Tarpons - always great options when the weather makes the open flats unfishable.
Long Caye Outpost: The outpost is on the Eastern side of Long Caye Island, a 45-minute boat ride from mainland. Facing the Barrier coral reef, it is surrounded by sandy shallow flats and deep channels that separate the many mangrove Islands of the area. It is a private Island mostly inhabited but for a few seasonal local lobster fishermen.
The Fishing: Most of the fishing is done from a boat shared by two anglers taking turns and their guide. There are a few wading opportunities on turtle grass flats for bonefish, but this is not a wading destination. The 23-foot pangas are equipped with a poling platform and a removable support bar on the bow for the casting angler. They offer the best compromise of safety in rough seas and ability to be polled in very shallow flat.
• Bonefish: Belize bonefish are small, averaging from 1 to 4 pounds but they are plenty. Opportunities at larger bonefish can be found in the multitude of lagoons in some of the mangrove Islands.
• Permit: They can be found year-round and Belize has the reputation to be one of the finest destination on earth for permit fishing on the flats. Ranging from a few pounds to specimens well over 30 pounds, anglers can expect multiple “shots“ a day when weather conditions are right.
• Tarpon: This is, without a doubt, one of the finest destination for Tarpon as well of all sizes.
• Jacks-Barracuda-Sharks-Cubera Snappers - and much more!
